Regional Office

History

The first representation of our region (in common with the Lublin Voivodship) in Brussels was created on 9 June 1999. But because of the high cost of operating the office and highly inconvenient for the Podlasie issues related to the organization, specific features of work and, consequently, low efficiency, 24 March 2003 Podlaskie Regional Assembly unanimously adopted a resolution accepting the statement of Podlaskie Voivodship Board to withdraw from the agreement to create a representation of Provinces the Podlaskie and Lublin in Brussels.

This decision did not mean, however, resign from the presence of Podlasie in Brussels. Podlaskie Voivodship Board took action to develop a new formula of our representation in Brussels, including through cooperation with the regions or institutions of the EU, with which the region already has an effective collaboration.

In 2003, Podlaskie Province signed a cooperation agreement with Italian-Polish Chamber of Commerce, which represents the region of Lombardy in the inter-relations. In implementing the agreement records provincial government, after thorough analysis, the Italians accepted the offer on the opening of Regional office Bura Podlaskie Voivodeship in Brussels. The room was rented in the same building with the Italian-Polish Chamber of Commerce, an Italian consultancy firm Sineura and representative of the Italian government in Brussels.

On 15 November 2004, Podlaskie Regional Assembly Resolution No. XXII/241/04 expressed its willingness to establish the Regional Office of Podlaskie Voivodeship in Brussels as a body representing the interests of the region in the institutions. The initiative gained acceptance by the Minister of Foreign Affairs.

On 17 September 2009, during the XXXII session of the Assembly adopted a resolution on entrusting the tasks of maintaining a common representation of Provinces: Lubelskie, Podkarpackie, Podlaskie, Świętokrzyskie, Warmia - Mazury under the name of the East Poland House in Brussels.
